Primary aluminum includes sheet and extrusion alloys, typically generated by service centers, metal stampers, and fabricators. Secondary aluminum consists of cast or contaminated alloys, which may contain ferrous or non-metallic attachments. Aluminum turnings also fall under the secondary category.

Yes. Painted or coated non-ferrous materials generally have a lower value. For example, painted or film-coated primary aluminum may be worth 5–20% less than clean, unpainted aluminum scrap.
